If you are coming into hospital for surgery then there are some practical rules to observe.
  • You must not eat or drink anything for 4-6 hours prior to an operation or a general anaesthetic.

  • If you are to be admitted on the day of surgery and have not yet been given specific instructions about your diet, please ring Matron or the Sister in charge for advice.

  • On the day of surgery, please do not wear any make-up, nail varnish or jewellery. (Wedding rings however are permitted.)

Following treatment, we will advise you on how long your recovery will take and what you should be doing to aid the healing process. It is important that you do not drive on the same day as an anaesthetic, so if you are leaving on the day of the operation, please ensure you arrange for someone to collect you. If you are having a general anaesthetic, you will not be fit to drive yourself. It is also important that you do not start driving until you have had a full nights rest. Whoever collects you should stay with you for 24 hours following the anaesthetic.

If you wish, we would be happy to show you around our hospital before your admission. This will help you to familiarise yourself with where you will be staying and to quell any worries. To arrange a visit please contact Matron who will arrange for a member of staff to show you around.
